Grandma Martha’s Rice Krispy Treats

Grandma Martha’s Rice Krispy Treats

My first experience in the kitchen growing up that I can actually rememeber was making these treats with my great grandma. It wasn’t chocolate chip cookies or no bake chocolate cookies but these peanut butter rice krispies.

Don’t mistake me.. these are so tasty but they also have a sweet sentimental value that will never let go from me. My great grandma (Martha) was a sweet, short, and jolly lil lady. She was loved by everybody and I am NOT exaggerating. Everyone knew her and she likewise.

Even after we moved from Kansas to Washington St. and she would visit us, we would make them together and they would get devoured.

When any of us great grand daughters would get married, she would hand write a notebook full of recipes and pass them down on to us. These rice krispy treats were always in there. Sadly, I was the last great granddaughter to receive this little gift. Only a few weeks after our wedding at 92 years old our dear little grandmother passed away.

She will always be remembered for her fun treats, stories, farewells when we said goodbye, and so many laughs, hugs and kisses.

Peanut Butter Rice Krispy Treats

These are so simple and are FABULOUS in the summer time when you down feel like baking but need a fast and yummy cookie bar. So let’s get started..

For the most part I have not changed the recipe, however I have changed a good amount of the karo in place for honey. This treat is sweet, so other times I have melted chocolate and drizzled it on it as well.

Start by combining the peanut butter, honey, sugar, and karo syrup in a good sized saucepan on the stove. You will want to bring it to a boil, stirring constantly only for ONE minute. If it goes longer the rice krispy will become hard and not chewy. Once it is hot, combine the vanilla with the mixture and 6 cups of rice krispies well and spread evenly on a greased baking sheet. Let them set for 25 minutes to harden, then cut them and try not to eat them all in one setting.. 😉

hand written recipe from my great grandma

My grandma Martha so well describes how to store these treats in her recipe instructions.. “hide em or lock em up.. ha”!!

I love to take these to social functions, camping trips, road trips or just for the any who.. 🙂

Don’t forget to comment below or tag me on Instagram if you make these treats! I would love to see them. 🙂
